2022 for discussion and it will remain open for 2 days (48 hours) till on March

02, 2022.

Topic/Area for Discussion:

“Networking and internet: Multimedia Streaming”

GDB Problem Statement

The use of computers, mobile phones, and communication technologies is Increasing day by day. People around the globe are using internet services for Social interaction, online business, online shopping, flight reservation, and various Other activities. The use of communication technologies also helped educational Institutes to survive during the current pandemic situation but they faced a lot of Difficulties in providing education to the students at their homes for sharing Valuable knowledge among the students of various departments, an educational Institute is planning to develop a video streaming service of its own for streaming Lectures of different disciplines. They need to use a suitable streaming technology That is secure, and efficient in resource allocation and bandwidth utilization. Following are the two choices for adopting the mode of multimedia streaming

  1. Multicast
  2. Broadcast

GDB Question:

Keeping the above scenario in view, which mode of streaming

Will you prefer? Briefly explain with solid in concrete form

Solution: 1st

As Per the Above Situation I Will Pick Multicast Multimedia Streaming In Light Of

  1. 1. It Has At Least One Sender and Various Receiver And It Send Information From

One Gadget to Number of Gadgets.

  1. 2. Multicast Uses Data Transfer Capacity Productively In Data Transmission.

Multicasting Is Safer Than Broadcasting.

  1. 3. The Speed Is Additionally A Significant Distinction among Broadcast And

Multicast. Broadcasting Is Slower While Multicasting Is Quicker.

  1. 4. In Multicasting The Cycle Speed Is Quicker Than Broadcasting.
  2. 5. Multicasting Requires Bunch the Executives to Characterize the Gathering Of

Hosts/Stations Which Will Get Parcels

  1. 6. Whereas Broadcasting Doesn't Need Any Group Management.

2nd solution:

❖ Multi-casting is more efficient and require less bandwidth compared to broadcasting. ❖ In the broadcast the packet is delivered to the entire host connected to the network whereas, in multicast packet is delivered to intendeds recipients only. ❖ Broadcast create a huge amount of traffic which fastens the system in comparison to broadcasting. ❖ Broadcast is only in the LAN, NOT passed by the router. And multicast can pass by the router. ❖ Multi-casting prevents unwanted message transmission and avoids clogging of the network.

3rd solution:

Accounting to the above scenario I will chose multicast multimedia steaming. Because it has more than one sender and multiple receivers. It sends data from one device to multiple devices. Another fast is that multicasting is more secured than broadcasting. A major difference between multicast and broad is speed broadcasting is slower process while multicast is faster. Multicasting requires a group of management by the host but broad casting doesn’t require it.

4th solution:

According to the given scenario, my preference in mode of streaming will be multicast because In multicast the data transferred to the group of destination devices simultaneously. In the given Case the institution wants to stream lectures to the student, multicast would be the best for this. In Multicast, bandwidth is utilized efficiently, the resources are allocated efficiently, the speed is Fast a and it is more secure than broadcast because the information is transferred to different Groups of students by different hosts and all the things are under control, that’s why I would Prefer multicast instead of broadcast.
