How your GPA is worked out

GPA = Σ (credit hours × grade points) ÷ total credit hours

  1. Your total marks in a course decide its grade. 82 marks is an A-.
  2. Each grade has grade points. A+ and A give 4.00. Lower grades cover a range: A- is 3.66 to 3.99. This calculator spreads the points evenly across the range, so 82 gives 3.83.
  3. Multiply the grade points by the course's credit hours to get quality points.
  4. Add the quality points for all courses and divide by your total credit hours.

Your calculation

Course Cr. hrs Grade points Quality points
CS301 3 3.83 11.49
CS304 3 3.41 10.23
MTH202 3 2.66 7.98
ENG201 3 4.00 12.00
STA301 3 3.00 9.00
Total 15 50.70

50.70 ÷ 15 = 3.38

Questions about VU GPA

Grade points follow the official VU grading scheme. Check VULMS for your final result.

How do I calculate my VU GPA?

Multiply the grade points of each course by its credit hours to get quality points. Add the quality points for all courses, then divide by your total credit hours.

Which grades give a 4.00?

A+ (90 to 100 marks) and A (85 to 89 marks) both give 4.00 grade points.

Why is my VULMS result different from this calculator?

VU uses relative grading, so the exact grade points inside a grade range depend on how your class performed. This calculator spreads the points evenly across each range, which gives a close estimate.

How many credit hours is a VU course?

Most VU courses are 3 credit hours. Some are 2 or 4, and practical or lab courses are often 1. Your course page and VULMS show the credit hours.

Is my data saved?

Your courses are saved in this browser only, so they are still here when you come back. Nothing is sent to VUBuddy.
