What you need to pass a VU course

  1. At least 20% in the first half: the midterm plus quizzes, assignments and GDBs.
  2. At least 20% in the final term exam.
  3. At least 50% of the total marks.

Each course has its own weightage. The final term is normally 60%, the midterm 20 to 30% and graded activities 10 to 20%. Check your course's weightage under the course assessment scheme on VULMS.

You need all three. If you score below 20% in the first half, you cannot pass the course that semester, whatever you score in the final term.

How the final term target is worked out

Your midterm and graded activities marks are each converted to their weightage, for example 28 out of 40 in a midterm worth 25% gives 17.5. Together they make your first half.

The final term target is the larger of 20% of the final term weightage, or 50 minus your first half. Dividing it by the final term weightage gives the share of the paper you need.

First half: 17.5 + 12 = 29.5 Target: larger of 12 and 20.5 = 20.5 Share of paper: 20.5 ÷ 60 = 34.2%
