If you do not have a pre/co-requisites (submit the questionnaire) or if you do not attend both lectures during the first week, I reserve the right to administratively drop you from the course.

Preparing for the semester:

◼ All handouts, notes and HW assignments are available in Cougar Courses ( You will submit HW assignments there. o You can download MS Office for free (see Student Resources of our CS web site) to submit .docx or .rtf files. ◼ All programming related files for the class are available in the UNIX machine directory

You will have to compile and run all C++ programs on Empress. Access to Empress when you are off campus can be through cougarApps.

• You can transfer files to/from your hard drive to/from Empress using Secure File Transfer Client. See help-sft.
• You can use putty to log onto empress. See help-putty. Once on Empress, you access the directory /cs/cs311RY. Copy the files to your own empress account. Then, you can run the sample C++ programs on empress. Unix command for copying …. Do this in your own directory to copy all the files to your Unix directory.

ls

/cs/cs311RY

will list all the files I have in there. cp -r /cs/cs311RY/* . (note the period) to copy everything

ls

will show you what you have copied

logout

always logout before closing the session
