THEME 7: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTING (PART 1) gemini

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (مالیاتی انتظام) It is the strategic planning and monitoring (نگرانی) of an organization's financial resources to achieve its goals. It involves managing cash flow, investments, and financial risks to ensure sustainability (استحکام). IMPORTANCE OF FINANCE (مالیات کی اہمیت) Finance is the "lifeblood" of business, essential for daily operations, purchasing assets, and expansion. It enables innovation (جدت), risk management, and long-term stability by ensuring funds are available for research and emergencies. SOURCES OF FUNDING (فنڈنگ کے ذرائع) Businesses raise capital through various methods: Internal Sources: Retained earnings ( بچت شدہ منافع) and sale of assets. External Sources: Equity financing (selling shares), debt financing (loans/bonds), and venture capital (انویسٹمنٹ). DEBT VS. EQUITY FINANCING (قرض بمقابلہ حصص) These are the two primary ways to raise external capital: Equity Financing: Selling ownership (ملکیت) through shares; no obligation to repay but dilutes control. Debt Financing: Borrowing money that must be repaid with interest (سود); retains ownership but adds financial pressure.

SHORT-TERM VS. LONG-TERM FINANCE (مختصر اور طویل مدتی مالیات)

Short-term: Used for working capital (day-to-day costs) like wages and inventory, typically repaid within a year. Long-term: Used for major investments (بڑی سرمایہ کاری) like land, machinery, or R&D, repaid over many years. SECURITIES MARKETS (سیکیورٹیز مارکیٹ) Financial marketplaces where stocks (حصص), bonds, and other securities are traded between investors and corporations. They bridge the gap between those with surplus (اضافی) funds and businesses needing capital. PAKISTAN STOCK EXCHANGE - PSX (پاکستان اسٹاک ایکسچینج) The central hub for capital formation in Pakistan, formed by merging the Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad exchanges. It provides a platform for companies to list shares and for investors to trade, contributing to national economic growth. INVESTMENT STRATEGIES (سرمایہ کاری کی حکمت عملی) Approaches used by investors to grow wealth: Value Investing: Buying undervalued (کم قیمت) stocks for long-term gains. Growth Investing: Focusing on companies with high future potential. Income Investing: Prioritizing steady dividends (منافع کا حصہ) or interest. RISK AND RETURN (خطرہ اور منافع) A fundamental concept stating that higher potential returns (منافع) usually come with higher risks (خطرہ). Investors must balance their risk tolerance (برداشت) with their financial goals. FINANCIAL PLANNING AND BUDGETING (مالیاتی منصوبہ بندی) The process of estimating future revenues (آمدنی) and expenses (اخراجات). It helps businesses allocate resources efficiently, prevent overspending, and prepare for seasonal demand. ACCOUNTING (اکاؤنٹنگ / محاسبہ) The systematic process (منظم طریقہ کار) of identifying, recording, measuring, and communicating financial information. It provides a clear picture of a business's economic activities to stakeholders for informed decision-making. FINANCIAL STATEMENTS ( مالیاتی گوشوارے) Standardized reports summarizing financial performance, typically consisting of: Balance Sheet: Shows assets (اثاثے), liabilities (واجبات), and owner’s equity at a specific point in time. Income Statement: Reports revenues, expenses, and net profit or loss over a period. Cash Flow Statement: Tracks the actual inflow and outflow of cash (نقد رقم کا بہاؤ). THE ACCOUNTING EQUATION (اکاؤنٹنگ کی مساوات) The foundational formula: Assets = Liabilities + Owner’s Equity. It ensures the balance sheet remains balanced, meaning everything the company owns (Assets) is financed either by borrowing (Liabilities) or by the owners' investment (Equity). ASSETS (اثاثے) Resources owned by a business with future economic value: Current Assets: Cash or items convertible to cash within one year (e.g., inventory, accounts receivable). Fixed Assets: Long-term tangible (ٹھوس) items like land, buildings, and machinery (آالت). LIABILITIES (واجبات) The financial obligations or debts a business owes to outsiders: Current Liabilities: Short-term debts due within a year (e.g., utility bills, short-term loans). Long-term Liabilities: Debts due after one year (e.g., mortgages, long-term bank loans). OWNER’S EQUITY (مالک کا حصہ) The residual (باقی ماندہ) interest in the assets of a business after deducting all liabilities. It represents the owner’s total investment plus retained earnings (بچت شدہ منافع). DEPRECIATION (فرسودگی / قیمت میں کمی) The systematic allocation (تقسیم) of the cost of a tangible asset over its useful life. It represents the wear and tear (ٹوٹ پھوٹ) of machinery or equipment over time, recorded as an expense on the income statement. AUDITING (آڈٹ / پڑتال) An independent examination (آزادانہ معائنہ) of financial records to ensure accuracy (درستگی) and compliance with laws. Internal audits help management improve operations, while external audits provide credibility (اعتبار) to investors and regulators. RATIO ANALYSIS (تناسب کا تجزیہ) A tool used to evaluate a company’s performance by comparing different financial figures: Liquidity Ratios: Measure ability to pay short-term debts. Profitability Ratios: Measure how efficiently a company generates profit (منافع) relative to sales or assets. BUDGETARY CONTROL (بجٹ کے ذریعے کنٹرول) The process of comparing actual financial results with the planned budget (تخمینہ). This helps identifying variances (فرق), allowing managers to take corrective actions to stay within financial limits.

THEME 8: GLOBAL BUSINESS COMPETITION (1ST HALF)

GLOBAL TRADE (عالمی تجارت) The exchange of goods and services across international borders. It allows countries to specialize (مہارت حاصل کرنا) in what they produce best while importing what others produce more efficiently. +1

CORE CONCEPTS OF TRADE (تجارت کے بنیادی تصورات)

Imports (درآمدات): Goods and services purchased from other countries. Exports (برآمدات): Goods and services sold to foreign markets. Trade Balance: The difference between a country's total exports and imports. THEORIES OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE (بین االقوامی تجارت کے نظریات) Different academic frameworks explain how nations trade: Mercantilism (سوداگری): An old theory focused on accumulating wealth by maximizing exports and minimizing imports. Absolute Advantage: A country should produce goods it can make more efficiently than any other country. Comparative Advantage: Specializing in goods with the lowest opportunity cost (متبادل قیمت), even if not the most efficient overall. Heckscher-Ohlin Theory: Trade is based on resource abundance (مثالً لیبر یا سرمایہ). Porter’s Diamond Model: Success depends on local market demand, skilled labor, and industry rivalry (مقابلہ بازی). BARRIERS TO GLOBAL TRADE (عالمی تجارت میں رکاوٹیں) Obstacles that restrict the free flow of goods: Tariffs & Quotas: Taxes on imports or physical limits on the quantity of goods allowed. Subsidies (رعایت): Government financial aid to local businesses that distorts (بگاڑنا) fair competition. Technical Standards: Strict safety or quality regulations that can block foreign products. Political & Cultural Barriers: Includes trade sanctions (پابندیاں), trade wars, or differences in branding and language that hinder market entry. STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL SUCCESS (عالمی کامیابی کی حکمت عملی) Methods used by nations and firms to enhance trade: Trade Agreements: Joining groups like the WTO or signing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to reduce taxes. Infrastructure Investment: Improving ports and roads (like CPEC) to facilitate (سہولت فراہم کرنا) easier movement of goods. Digital Trade: Using e-commerce platforms (e.g., Alibaba, Daraz) to reach global customers. Export Incentives: Providing tax breaks or training programs for local exporters MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS - MNCs (کثیر القومی کمپنیاں) These are large companies like Apple and Unilever that operate across international borders. Positive Impacts: They drive globalization through job creation (روزگار), technology transfer, and infrastructure development, such as Nestlé’s dairy farms in Pakistan. Negative Impacts: Concerns include profit repatriation (منافع کی واپسی), environmental degradation, and market dominance over local firms. STRATEGIES TO ENHANCE GLOBAL TRADE (عالمی تجارت کو بڑھانے کی حکمت عملی) Nations and businesses adopt proactive measures to overcome trade barriers: Trade Agreements: Joining multilateral bodies like the WTO or signing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), such as the Pakistan-China FTA, to reduce tariffs. Infrastructure Investment: Developing projects like CPEC to improve logistics, ports, and roads for easier exports. Digital Trade: Using e-commerce platforms like Alibaba or Daraz to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) reach global audiences. Export Incentives: Providing training and tax breaks (رعایت) through programs like the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). Currency Stability: Maintaining predictable exchange rates to encourage foreign investment ( غیر ملکی سرمایہ کاری). CHALLENGES FOR PAKISTAN (پاکستان کے لیے چیلنجز) Pakistan faces specific hurdles in global competition: Economic Factors: Currency devaluation (کرنسی کی قدر میں کمی) and high tariffs on luxury items. Political Barriers: Trade wars, sanctions, and regional tensions (مثالً بھارت کے ساتھ تجارتی پابندیاں) that disrupt supply chains. Technical & Cultural Issues: Strict international quality standards ( مثالً یورپی ٹیکسٹائل معیار) and misaligned branding that can hinder market entry.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH (ترقی کے مواقع)

CPEC: The potential to transform Gwadar into a regional trade hub (عالقائی تجارتی مرکز). Regional Specialization: Leveraging industrial clusters like Sialkot (sports goods) and Faisalabad (textiles) for global exports. Sustainability: Adopting green energy and eco-friendly production to meet modern global demand.
