Assignment solution
Spring 2022
Q1. Learning strategies and styles are linked to each other but are different. Style is natural, but strategies can be purposively taught, e.g. writing the main idea is a strategy which can be taught explicitly. Cognitive and Social/Affective Strategies:

Making inferences: Guess meaning
Grouping: Classifying words, concepts
Note-taking: Writing key words, concepts
Cooperating: Learning how to work with peers
Solution:
A learning strategy is an individual's way of organizing and using a particular set of skills in order to learn content or accomplish other tasks more effectively and efficiently in school as well as in non-academic settings (Schumaker & Deshler, 1992).
Broadly speaking, learning styles can be defined as general approaches to language learning, while learning strategies are specific ways learners choose to cope with language tasks in particular contexts. Learning strategies are the ways in which students learn, remember information, and study for tests. Learning styles are habitual patterns of perceiving, processing, or reacting to information. Learning strategies. Learning strategies are the specific actions one takes and/or techniques one uses in order to learn. The notion that everyone has their own learning style became popular in the 1970s. It's an attractive thought: if each of us could identify one, "ideal" approach to learning, we'd be able to focus on it – and be consistently successful.
What's more, by understanding other people's needs, we'd know how best to support them to learn. It could revolutionize education, training and L&D, and help all of us to reach our full potential as learners. Before we explain why many experts now have little faith in learning styles, let's explore how some of the original ideas came about.
How can a teacher help students with different learning and thinking styles continue to learn more effectively? Use questions of all types to stimulate various levels of thinking and valuing. Which of the following is best for a teacher to do when establishing classroom rules?
Learning style is predisposition to behave in a particular way when engaged in the learning process. Learning strategies are the methods employed by the learner to achieve learning. Identifying your learning style involves understanding how you tend to learn best. You can use this information to your advantage when you study by using learning approaches that work well for you, such as writing out notes, creating mindmaps, using models or reciting out loud.
Determining students' learning styles provides information about their specific preferences. Understanding learning styles can make it easier to create, modify, and develop more efficient curriculum and educational programs.
