📘 Lecture Summary Group Decision Making and Creativity Creativity and innovation play a vital role in organizational success. Creativity refers to generating new and unique ideas, while innovation involves transforming those creative ideas into practical products, services, or processes. Creativity requires both convergent and divergent thinking. Convergent thinking focuses on logical, step-by-step problem solving. Divergent thinking emphasizes generating multiple, novel alternatives. There are three essential components of creativity: Domain-relevant skills – expertise and technical knowledge in a field. Creativity-relevant skills – flexible thinking style, idea-generation techniques, and a supportive work style. Task motivation – internal interest in the task rather than external rewards. The creative process consists of four stages: Preparation – gathering information and analyzing the problem. Incubation – subconscious processing of ideas. Illumination – sudden insight or breakthrough. Verification – testing and validating the idea. Group creativity can be enhanced through techniques such as: Brainstorming – generating many ideas without criticism. Nominal Group Technique (NGT) – combines individual idea generation with group discussion and silent voting; more effective than traditional brainstorming. Vertical thinking is logical and linear, while lateral thinking explores problems from different angles to find innovative solutions. Other decision-making methods include: Delphi Method – uses expert opinions to forecast future events through repeated surveys. Scenario Analysis – evaluates alternative future situations to keep decision-making flexible. Deming’s PDCA/PDSA cycle (Plan, Do, Check/Study, Act) is a continuous improvement tool that promotes innovation and quality enhancement. 📝 20 MCQs (VU Paper Pattern)
