HOW Professionals are differing from nonprofessional?
difference between professional and nonprofessional. is that professional is a person who belongs to a profession while nonprofessional is one who is not a professional; an amateur.
What is the difference between professionals and non-professionals?
The short answer is that professionals deal with things that really matter (health, wealth, the environment, …) and provide solutions to the issues that do not (yet) have “right” answers, so they have to use their expert knowledge & experience (= expertise) together with professional judgement to design a good solution. In contrast a technician follows a paradigm/protocol (which can be extremely complicated) in order to deliver the correct solution, so a mistake gives a wrong answer and professional judgement is less important.
In practice this has many implications:
a professional need to be able to perform the technical paradigms too, but will generally be less efficient at them as the technician performs them routinely. the client will usually not be expert, and so the professional needs to be trusted in order to be hired for a particular task. So, the professional needs to be trustworthy, and great emphasis is placed on professional values and ethical practice to protect the reputation of the profession, because one well publicized ‘bad apple’ can bring the whole profession into disrepute. A significant role of ‘professional institutions’ and ‘professional regulators’ is to design and police these codes for the profession. legislation, etc. so that they can apply it to the novel situations they are asked to solve. But they also need to develop their professional judgement which is based on experience (accelerated by sharing the experience of others: another reason for the existence of ‘professional institutions’ and ‘learned societies’), so that book learning or sitting in rows in front of a screen/board is not enough to form a competent professional.
